OSHA proposes new legislation for workplace safety

Posted on August 3rd, 2010 No Comments

A proposed bill that OSHA is trying to pass states that human resource executives could be held responsible and be criminally liable for workplace safety violations.

The bill is expected to be voted on soon and will have the most change on the Occupational Safety and Health Act throughout its 40-year history. Officials with OSHA began to draft this bill to tighten up mine safety after the mine explosion that killed 29 in West Virginia last April.

The new bill is expected to strengthen the mine safety laws and give the ability to identify mines that have safety issues. People in opposition of the bill feel that it will not help prevent accidents by having harsh penalties for employees.
